In keeping with my commitment to expanding the availability of services to children with autism, I provide services to home programs or schools in areas in which there is a significant lack of local consultation resources. Because this necessarily means my services will be provided remotely with only occasional site visits, and because I strongly believe in developing local capacity, I only provide consultation under circumstances in which a team member (parent, teacher, or tutor) is in the process of becoming board certified as either a behavior analyst or an associate behavior analyst, or is already certified as a BCaBA and is in need of BCBA supervision.

Consultation to home programs or schools consists of three phases:

Initial Assessment:
Assessment of language, learning, and critical behavioral skills based on the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP; Sundberg, 2008) as well as more general behavioral observation and analysis, including an assessment of relational framing skills and precursors. The outcome of this assessment includes descriptions of strengths as well as barriers to progress, recommendations for goals and objectives for home and/or school settings, and recommendations for teaching and behavioral strategies to ensure student success.
Initial assessment is conducted through both off-site (including web-based videoconferencing, video review, and coaching through some portions of the assessment activities) and on-site activities (observations and direct testing as needed in all relevant environments), and typically takes about two to three days. Additional training time can be provided as needed for the program team during this visit.

Ongoing consultation:
Ongoing consultation is provided through data review, video observation, and web-based video-conferencing with program team members. Ongoing consultation includes assistance in the development of specific lesson plans and data collection systems, assistance with the development of behavior plans, and ongoing discussion of the student’s needs as her program progresses. The program must be overseen on a day-to-day basis by a local program supervisor, as noted above (in process of becoming certified as either a BCBA or BCaBA). The level of ongoing consultation is determined in coordination with the team and may range from 5-10 hours per month depending of the needs of the program and of the team.

Interim Progress Reviews:
Progress is reviewed through in-person consultation and observation in all relevant environments every three to six months. Based on issues raised during ongoing consultation, additional skills assessment and program recommendations will be made, and interim progress consultation visits are typically 1-2 days.
